The Patient is Doing Well

This has been a very busy week for us (I feel like I say that in every blog entry). Monday morning Adam had surgery on his hip. It was orthoscopic surgery to repair his labrum. He fractured his hip about 6 years ago and it never healed correctly. Over the past year it has progressively gotten worse so this surgery was supposed to get rid of the pain and basically fix the hip.

Overall the surgery went very well. Adam was uncomfortable after the surgery but has not been in as much pain as either one of us thought he would be. The doctor told me they even had to smooth out sections of the hip bone which would cause him a lot pain. He is taking Percocet but still feels pretty good. He isn't taking the full dose and last night didn't wake up to take more (he can take pain meds every 4-6hours). He has a follow-up appointment with the doctor next Tuesday and starts physical therapy next week too. He should be cleared to drive next week too.

before the surgery - lookin' good!

after surgery - he was starving and kept asking for a burrito

These next photos are not for those with a weak stomachs. Adam was able to shower and change the dressing last night. We were both very interested to see the incision and stitches but neither one of us expected this. Adam has a very strong stomach and he even was queasy after changing the dressing. My stomach flipped before I even looked!

so gross!

I could never be in the medical profession - disgusting

The same day as Adam's surgery Charlie fell and scraped her nose. She already had a monster bruise on her forehead from falling this past weekend. I took her to Target on Tuesday and a lady told me, "It looks like you beat her up, but we know you didn't." Some people! Thank goodness we had her Christmas pictures taken last week.

Here are a few more pictures of Charlie. Last night she was walking around with a picture of Heather's dog Luca wearing Adam's hat. So cute!

Finally, Adam's parents bought me an underwater for Christmas. They gave it to me early so I could take it to Costa Rica. We took Charlie swimming on Sunday and took a few pictures. Here is one of my favorites. I love that she even smiles under water!
