Back In The Saddle - Kind Of

Today I went for a run. Yes, I haven't run since January but I decided I would listen to my body and see how it went. I have been doing yoga at least once a week, talking Izzy for a walk every day, and then trying to fit in some strength training and cycling when I can. But I have missed running.

One of the many things I have struggled with during this pregnancy is the type of exercises I can do and how much. Yesterday I went to my yoga class and there was only one other woman there. It was awesome because we basically received a private lesson. I mentioned to the instructor and the other student that I struggle with this they both told me to listen to my body and try running if I felt comfortable. I know they are not medical professionals but they have both had children so in my book that gives them a little bit more creditability :)

I woke up this morning and immediately got my running clothes on and loaded Izzy into the car. It was a PERFECT morning for a run. I drove to Rockburn Park which has tons a great trails to run/walk/explore. (This park is less than a mile from our house but there are not any sidewalks along the road. Why, I have no idea. Anyway, I don't trust running along the road with Izzy so we usually drive.) Izzy and I were the only ones in the park and it was a beautiful morning. I took is slow and wogged (not quite a jog but faster than a walk) for 10 minutes, walked for 2 minutes, wogged for 10 more minutes and then finished by walking about 20 more minutes. So in total I jogged for about 20 minutes. Not too bad if you ask me. Hopefully I can continue jogging twice a week until I am forced to walk. The best part of the run is it is now 9 am and it is raining and thundering outside. If I had waited I probably would have decided to stay inside because of the weather. I feel so accomplished!

By the way, I am taking today off of work because my car is in the shop for this entire week (head gaskets and timing belt). I am taking Monday off, Adam is taking Friday off and then we only have to share a car for three days this week. Plus it gives me time to work on the nursery...or forced nesting as I like to call it. But more on this later.
