My First Hurricane

Yesterday, Hurricane Hanna came by for a visit. Technically, I think she was a tropical storm by the time she hit Maryland. The day started with some light rain and not much wind. I had planned to go for a run in the morning but I stayed in bed because I am a fair weather runner. I was not going to go for a run in the rain if I didn't have to. By mid-morning it was still raining and the wind was really blowing. It wasn't strong enough to scare me, but enough to make watching out the window exciting.

The storm forced me to have a relaxing day indoors. I usually don't do this. I always have a list a mile long that I need to accomplish on the weekend. My Saturday morning usually starts with a run and then I just keep on moving until I am ready to crash around 7 pm. But not yesterday. I tried to make the most of my day indoors by reading, cooking and relaxing.

I decided to make pasties. I only make pasties about once a year. For those of you who don't know what pasties are...they are a poor man's meal. Basically, they are meat and potatoes in a dough. Whenever I make them I always think of my grandmother and mother who made them when I was younger. For me, they remind me of my childhood and of growing up in Montana. They turned out really well and I made enough to freeze some. Ah, delicious!

I want the recipe for pasties. Seriously- they look awesome and would be great for session food!
