The Second Half

Today marks the last day of the first half of the year. The past six months of been a wild ride - getting married, two week trip to Costa Rica, two half marathons, and three triathlons including a half ironman.

The half ironman has been my main focus for so long, now I want to shift my focus. I am not ready to leave endurance events behind but also want to become more well rounded. Here are my goals for the next six months:

  1. Learn how to use my camera. I bought a digital SLR camera as a gift for surviving my time working on Capital Hill. The camera is much smarter than I am. I would like to be able to use all of it's functionality instead of using it as an expensive point and shoot camera.
  2. Touch my toes. That is right - I can't touch my toes. I never remember being able to touch my toes. So my plan is to stretch more and get more into yoga. This has been a goal for a while but one that I haven't really taken serious. If I don't increase my flexibility now I won't be able to touch my knee caps in 20 years!
  3. Complete a marathon. I am signed up for the Baltimore marathon in October. I have every confidence that I will be able to finish (barring an injury). Once I get more into my training I may even set a time goal. I have run the half marathon for the past two years and always have had a good race. Last year I even set a personal best.

Hopefully, by making these goals public it will hold me accountable. I really want to be able to touch my toes!
