Weekend Recap

Well, it seems like my race strategy worked. I improved my time by 11 minutes from 2006. I was shocked!

I really concentrated on being relaxed and smooth on the swim. It was a very crowded swim. I was kicked and punched several times. I don’t mind this too much as I find comfort in knowing people are around me. I always second guess myself that I may have swum off course when I feel alone in the water.

I felt really strong and confident on the bike. I know I pushed it harder than I normally do but I felt fine. I think I even past more people than past me. Also, it is a great feeling when I past a 20 m.p.h road sign and I was going 30 m.p.h :) I improved my bike time by almost 4 minutes and really enjoyed the ride.

The run was difficult for me. My calves were really tight and the run course is really hilly - not a good combination. It took me 4 miles to get my legs to feel normal. But with each mile I knew I was that much closer to the finish. Again, I improved my run time on this course by 4 minutes from 2006.

I feel very ready for Eagleman. I am going to take the same approach for this race: only think positive thoughts, don’t force it and have fun!
