No more of this fake married business; Adam and I are now officially married. Yesterday afternoon we went to the justice of the peace and did the deed. I have to say we both liked being fake married – it was fun. But no more, it is time to get serious!
When planning the wedding in Costa Rica we learned that it can be difficult to get legally married in that country. Not impossible, just difficult. It can sometimes take up to a year to get all the paperwork processed, translated, and then sent to US. Adam and I decided to have a spiritual ceremony in Costa Rica and then have it legalized in the states.
It actually worked out really well. Originally we wanted to get married in Costa Rica on March 6th. But because of a variety of reasons this was not possible. So we decided to get married in CR in February and then legalize it on March 6th. March 6th was the day of our first date and also the date Adam asked me to marry him.
In Howard County (where we live) it is not required to have a witness. But because Adam’s grandmother was not able to come to Costa Rica with us we decided to ask if she wanted to come along. We both wanted her there but half expected her to say no (she really does not like to leave the house). But to our surprise she jumped at the chance!
So around 1:40 pm we picked her up and headed to the courthouse. Our “appointment” was at 2pm. We checked in and they told us to go sit in the chapel. I am not sure what I was expecting but this little chapel was cute! The justice of the peace came in, we repeated after her, and then she gave us our marriage certificate. We were out of there by 2:10. Not to sound too corny, but it was a lot of fun! And it was so nice to have Adam’s grandmother there with us. It meant a lot to us and I think she really enjoyed it.
